CEC chairs meeting to address issues of street vendors in Kargil
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, chaired a meeting on January 29 to discuss various issues faced by street vendors in Kargil town.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councilor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani, Administrator of the Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Tehsildar Kargil, Executive Officer MC Kargil, representatives from the Indian Army, and other officials.
A detailed discussion was held on the challenges faced by street vendors, with the EO MC Kargil providing insights into the number of registered vendors and their key concerns.
Dr. Akhoon directed MC Kargil to ensure proper registration and police verification of street vendors while strictly maintaining eligibility criteria. He also emphasized the need to monitor vendors' annual turnover to track their earnings.
The meeting focused on relocating vendors to different areas within the town to ease congestion and improve traffic flow. Various suggestions were put forward regarding suitable relocation sites.
The CEC instructed the ACR, Tehsildar Kargil, and EO MC to identify viable locations that would accommodate vendors without disrupting their businesses. Additionally, he stressed the need to manage vendors outside District Hospital Kargil to prevent overcrowding.
The EO MC Kargil proposed relocating vendors from outside the hospital gate to an area near the Council Quarters, where adequate space is available.
The department is also exploring the possibility of providing specially designed food carts with standardized measurements for vendors.
Furthermore, Dr. Akhoon directed the Executive Officer to identify landslide-prone areas and keep staff on high alert, particularly during snowfall and rainfall, to mitigate risks posed by natural disasters.
