The BDC Chairpersons of Ladakh will now get a monthly honorarium of ₹ 15000/ from 29.11.2019, i.e. the date, the BDCs were constituted. The order was issued by Secretary Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Department Ladakh, Saugat Biswas. 

The monthly honorarium will also include telephone/mobile usage charges and as fixed travelling allowances.

Also, the UT administration enhanced the monthly honorarium of the Sarpanches from the existing ₹ 2500 to ₹ 3000 per month.

The Block Development Council election was held for the first time. A total of 31 BDC chairpersons were elected for 16 and 15 blocks of Leh and Kargil districts respectively. The monthly honorarium of ₹ 15,000 is one of the highest honorarium being paid to the BDC Chairpersons(s) or Block Pramukhs in the country. 

The demand of the enhancement of the honorarium of Sarpanches and fixation of honorarium to the chairpersons of the newly constituted BDCs were raised by the elected representative during the conference of the Lt.Governor Ladakh on November 30.
