Nubra :

Two Bailey bridges were inaugurated over the Shayok river near Shatse Taknak in the Diskit Sub-Division of Leh, connecting the Shayok and Nubra Valley on January 22.

The bridges were jointly inaugurated by Brigadier VS Salaria SC, SM, Commander of the Siachen Brigade, and Tsering Angchuk, Deputy Chairman of LAHDC, Leh.

These two Bailey bridges, with lengths of 50 ft and 100 ft, were constructed by the Fire and Fury Corps Engineers across the Shayok River. They reduce the travel distance by approximately 40 km and cut down travel time by about two hours, connecting the farthest villages in the Nubra and Shayok Valleys.

The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including military officials, Mukul Beniwal IAS, SDM Nubra, and community members from Charasa, Burma, Kuri, and Murgi villages.

The construction of these bridges addresses a key need for the local communities, significantly improving access to essential services, especially during the harsh winter months. The villages of Charasa, Burma, Kuri, and Murgi in the Siachen region will particularly benefit from this initiative.
