A seminar focused on Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other taxation issues was held at the Defense Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) Auditorium on September 19.
The seminar began with a welcome speech by Phuntsog Toldan, Director of NIELIT, who emphasized the importance of bridging local industry with skilled manpower. He expressed hope for future programs aimed at enhancing knowledge in advanced GST and accounting.
Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of tax education in promoting economic growth. He noted the importance of understanding both direct and indirect taxes and their implications for local businesses.
In his keynote address, Chief Executive Councillor Tashi Gyalson outlined the seminar's objectives, emphasizing the crucial need for skilled manpower in Ladakh’s accounting sector. He stated, “With the implementation of GST, it's essential that our local professionals are equipped with the knowledge to manage tax filings effectively. This is not just about compliance; it’s about empowering our community to maximize the benefits of these regulations.”
CEC Gyalson also addressed the need for ongoing training programs, noting that the seminar marks the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the financial capabilities of Ladakh’s youth. “The participation of over 30 students in this crash course demonstrates their eagerness to learn. It’s imperative that we continue to invest in our human resources, ensuring they are well prepared to handle the complexities of accounting and taxation in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.”
A certificate distribution ceremony recognized candidates who successfully completed a 10-day Accounting Fresher Course, furthering their skills in financial management.
Chartered Accountants Preeti Singh and Ankit Prasad led an informative session on GST, followed by a Q&A segment where participants engaged in discussions about tax awareness and accounting practices. They highlighted the lack of awareness regarding tax benefits and the importance of accurate filings for local businesses.
The seminar concluded positively, with CEC Gyalson announcing plans for future training sessions to ensure that more residents have access to essential accounting skills. The event was well-received, with a strong turnout of over 30 participants eager to enhance their capabilities.
