The 45th death anniversary of the late Munshi Abdul Sattar, the only freedom fighter from the Ladakh region, was observed on June 6. Family members and close relatives gathered to offer prayers in his memory.
Munshi Abdul Sattar participated in the Indian Freedom Struggle from 1929 to 1945 alongside other freedom fighters across India. In 1935, he attended a meeting in Delhi with Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah. In 1938, he was sentenced to jail in Skardu for his involvement in the freedom struggle.
Following India's independence in 1947, Munshi Abdul Sattar continued to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people of Ladakh alongside Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. His contributions were recognised when he was awarded the "Tamrapatra" by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on August 15, 1972.
