2nd District Level Advisory Committee meeting highlights safe food and healthy diets
Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve chaired the 2nd District Level Advisory Committee meeting on Safe Food and Healthy Diet at the VC room on November 23.
The meeting addressed crucial issues related to food safety, including food establishment licenses, mid-day meals, and the registration of all department canteens under the Food Safety Standard Act.
During the meeting, officials provided updates to the DC Leh on the current status of food safety in Leh and detailed the various proactive measures undertaken by the Food Safety Department to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for the public.
Recognizing the importance of maintaining high standards of food safety, Deputy Commissioner Sukhadeve issued instructions to officials to ensure hygienic food availability in the market. He emphasized the need for inspection squads to monitor and curb the sale of unhealthy and expired food products, especially those targeted at children, and to address misbranded food items.
In addition, DC Leh directed the committee members to initiate awareness programs involving all stakeholders. He emphasized making short videos to educate the public on the importance of safe food and maintaining a healthy diet.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Leh (Vice-Chairperson), Members including the Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Chief Education Officer. Leh; Chief Agriculture Officer Leh; District Programme Officer, ICDS Leh; General Manager, DIC, Leh; Assistant Director, FCS & CA Leh; Executive Officer Municipal Leh; Professional on Food Safety and Nutrition; President, Merchant Association, and the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety.
