Leh :
Like in all parts of the world, the 10th of Moharram procession (Shabe Ashura) and (Youme Ashura) was observed at Leh by the Shia Community on November 03 and 04. The procession commenced from Jamia Masjid Chutey Rantak and concluded at the historical Imam Bargah Leh.
People took out the tazia and Zuljana procession reciting Noha, mourning and beating their chests recalling the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn Ali(AS), grandson of Prophet Mohammad(peace be upon Him) and his companions for the sake of Islam, humanity and justice. Imam and his companions were killed by the forces of Umayyad ruler Yazeed Ibn Muawiyah for opposing and refusing to recognize Yazeed as Caliph.
On the night of 9th Moharram (Shabe Ashura), which was presided over by Sheikh Nazir Phyang explained the people about the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and the importance of the event of Karbala (a place in Iraq) not only from the perspective of history of Islam but the history of mankind. He prayed for the unity and brotherhood among all humans and also prayed for all the oppressed people of the world.
The tazia stopped at Jamia masjid Leh where Alhaj sheikh Ghulam hadi Phyang addressed all the mourners and shared the reasons why Imam sacrificed himself and his loved ones. He highlighted how and why Imam chose not to bow His head in front of the Caliph Yazid and instead preferred dying following the path of Allah. His journey to Karbala and his sacrifice reveals the triumph of good over bad and justice over injustice.
Others speakers also threw light on the philosophy of Karbala and paid homage to the Imam and his companion who laid their lives for equality, justice, truth and to root out brutality and oppression and to save Islam from clutches of tyranny at Karbala in Iraq in 61st year after Hijra.
Meanwhile Sham-e-Garibaan was also observed with people carrying candles in their hands and marching from Jamia Masjid to Imam Bargah wearing black clothes and reciting noha.
School students, Army jawans and people from all corners of Leh and Kargil also participated and took out their respective tazias.
Likewise volunteers were seen offering tea and food to the mourners and Health Department, Leh Municipal Corporation, PHE and Police Department did their job effectively and with dedication.
