Ladakh Nuns Association celebrated 18 years of its foundation on 10 october. The function was presided over by Ven. Konchok Namgial, President Ladakh Gompa Association.

Rinchen Namgial, President LBA Youth Wing, Nurboo Gyalsan Ex. MLC, P. Namgial Ex. MP and Sonam Dorje, Mentsee Khang were also present on the occasion.

Ven. Konchok Namgial, President Ladakh Gompa Association said that earlier Nuns were made to work at their homes but after forming of LNA, the status of nuns has improved.  He appealed the people to encourage atleast one child from the family to devote himself towards the path of Dharma.

Dr. Tsering Palmo while briefing about Ladakh Nun Association highlighted about the various challenges being faced by nuns in early times. She added that the nuns are getting modern education along with religious studies in Lamdon Model School, CIBS and Siddhartha High School Stok.

“Since the formation of Ladakh Nuns Association in 1996, now there are more than 1200 nuns studying Buddhist Studies in 28 Monasteries, out of which 11 monasteries provide modern education along with Buddhist studies. I express gratitude to all who has contributed and helped us in one way or the other.”

She further prayed for the unity, peace and communal harmony among all humans and stressed on the need to include women in peace building.

Rinchen Namgial appreciated Dr. Palmo for her initiative and extended thanks on behalf of LBA for taking LBA youth for various conferences and events to other countries.

Ven. Deachen Chuskit who was admitted in LNA in 2002, while sharing her journey and experiences at Ladakh Nun Association said that she can never forget the support of LNA who had played an excellent role in shaping up the lives of the nuns. “With the support of LNA we get admission in schools. It is necessary to get modern education along with Dharma teachings. More Nuns are coming up with the support of LNA and most of them have come from far flung areas to pursue dharma studies,” she added.
At the end, Venerable Jigmet Chosdol presented the vote of thanks.
