Dosmoche was started by the rulers of Ladakh on the pattern of the popular Mon-Lam, 'Great Prayer' ceremony of Lhasa. The tradition related with this day originated centuries ago. Monks of various monasteries congregate in the courtyard below the Palace gate and carries out the sacred mask dance.
During the day, people from all corners of Ladakh enjoy shopping, Ladakhi cuisine, tambola, ring game, and lotteries etc. at Leh market.
