Eid- ul-Fitr celebrated in Leh, with message of peace, harmony and brotherhood

Marking the end of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with fervour by the Muslim community of Leh on 26 June. The day starts with an offering of morning prayers to the Almighty.
A congregation of Shia community was held at Leh Pologround whereas the Sunni community assembled at Eidgah, Leh.
Speaking about the importance of the day, Ashraf Ali Barcha, President Anjuman Imamia said, “The celebration of the Eid marks the end of the Ramadan month and it does not only means to keep fasting rather it teaches about bringing positive inner change and thinking".
He said, “It’s sad and disheartening to see violence and terrorism in all parts of the world, people with different ideologies have created much of hatred and humanity is suffering. It becomes important to understand and condemn such thoughts and acts in order to keep the humanity intact and to spread the message of peace, love and brotherhood.”
He further added that every religion teaches about compassion and people should strive to put those words into practice.
Greeting the people on the auspicious day, Dr. Abdul Qayoum, President, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam said, “ the festival will further strengthen the bond of communal harmony and brotherhood in J&K state in general and particularly among the people of Ladakh region.”
Talking about the essence of Eid, he appealed people to extend help to the needy and poor people on the occasion and to make them a part of the celebration.
Congratulating the people on Eid, Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC and Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA, Leh called for a peace, harmony and brotherhood wishes.
People exchanged greetings and giving alms to the needy on the day.
