Kargil hosts book launch of Kalam-i-Shina and Bazm-i-Shina celebrating Shina literature

The books Kalam-i-Shina and Bazm-i-Shina, authored by Yaseen Ansari, were officially launched on January 25 by the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon.

The launch event was attended by Councilor Altaf Hussain, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Padma Shri Awardee Akhoon Asgar Ali Basharat, President of the Hotel Association Kargil, as well as writers, poets from Shina, Balti, and Purgi, alongside a large audience of residents.

Dr. Akhoon, speaking on behalf of the Hill Council Kargil, congratulated Yaseen Ansari for his significant contribution to Shina literature and language. He praised the author’s efforts and emphasized the pivotal role of writers in shaping the future of society. Dr. Akhoon also extended his thanks to the Writers Association Kargil for recognizing Ansari's literary work and organizing the book launch event.

The CEC reiterated the Hill Council's commitment to promoting local literature and providing writers with the platform and opportunities to present their works. He encouraged local authors to offer their suggestions to further enrich the region’s literary scene.

Dr. Akhoon assured the attendees of continued support from the Hill Council to empower local writers, describing Ansari’s books as invaluable resources for future writers and researchers interested in the local culture and languages.

During the event, Dr. Akhoon announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh from his untied fund for the Writer's Association in the 2025-26 budget. Councillor Altaf Hussain also contributed Rs 20,000 as a token of appreciation, while Rangul Ali, President of the All Kargil Hotel Association, donated Rs 30,000 to Yaseen Ansari.

Later, Yaseen Ansari shared his personal experiences in writing the books and highlighted the importance of literature in society. He expressed his gratitude to CEC Kargil for attending the launch event despite his busy schedule.
