Ladakh Scouts clinch 4th LG Ice Hockey Cup, defeat ITBP 2-1 in Kargil
Ladakh Scouts emerged victorious in the 4th LG Ice Hockey Cup Championship, defeating ITBP with a score of 2-1 in a thrilling final held at the Ice Hockey Rink, Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil, on January 20.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.), commended the enthusiastic participation of the spectators, emphasizing that their support plays a crucial role in encouraging players and fostering future opportunities. He assured that whenever the Indian national team participates in international ice hockey tournaments, the Ladakh team will accompany them.
The LG further assured that team selection would be strictly merit-based, ensuring opportunities for only the best-performing players.
In an exciting announcement, the LG revealed plans to organize a polo match in Kargil next year, with the President of India as the Guest of Honor. Teams from across various states will be invited to participate in the event.
The LG also advised the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, Kargil, to engage the concerned agency to enhance the Ice Hockey Rink at Biamathang by constructing seating arrangements on its three open sides to accommodate more spectators comfortably.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik (IAS), welcomed the guests and congratulated all 12 teams for participating in the championship.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, extended gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor and the First Lady for initiating the LG Ice Hockey Cup in Kargil for the first time. He also thanked the Youth Services and Sports Department, along with other stakeholders, for successfully organising the championship.
