A review meeting on the first mega multi-sports event under the banner ‘Ladakh School Olympics’ was convened by Avny Lavasa, DC on July 19 in Leh.

The first mega multi-sports event under the banner ‘Ladakh School Olympics’ is to be held from August 23-28 in Leh. The main aim of this sports event is to provide a platform for the school children to explore and exhibit their sporting talent. Games like football, volleyball, boxing, judo, table tennis, archery and track and field events will be played. Polo-ground, Indoor Stadium and NDS Stadium have been finalized for the venue. 

Acknowledging the potential and talent of Ladakhi children in different sports, Avny Lavasa stressed on having proper sports facilities and training. 

She said that the initiative is a small step taken by the administration to motivate children to participate and explore their sporting potentials. 

Specific tasks to officers and sponsors regarding the procurement of sports equipment and kits, arrangement of transportation, accommodation, refreshment and catering for students and preparation of medals and trophies were assigned.

She urged them to ensure good quality equipment and kits and to work out the arrangements to achieve its purpose and to make it an annual event.

Till date, almost 2000 students from 108 schools, both government and private have done their online registration.
