A workshop on the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Kargil to review its progress, deliberate action plan and future strategies to achieve the given target was held on March 10 in Kargil.
The workshop was organised by District Administration Kargil under District Water and Sanitation Management.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan thanked the Government of India for launching a revolutionary scheme ensuring safe drinking water facilities to every household in rural India under the JJM. He termed the mission a noble initiative and lauded the efforts of officials working at ground level.
He said that the commitment made by the UT Administration to complete the mission this year amid all challenges in Ladakh can only be achieved with the dedication and hard work of all the officials and concerned stakeholders. He stressed community involvement in the scheme and urged PRI members to mobilize people and make them aware of the benefits of the scheme.
He further congratulated the officials of PHE, PWD, I&FC other concerned agencies for achieving 30 percent of the total target.
Secretary, Rural Development Ladakh, Saugat Biswas lauded the efforts of the PHE Department headed by the District Administration for speedy implementation of JJM works in the district.
He exhorted that the JJM would not be complete given the concerted efforts put by all the concerned departments and officials and unless the aspect of greywater management is integrated with piped water supply in each household.
He called for necessary coordination between RDD and PHE for effective and sustainable implementation of JJM as the operation and management part of the scheme would be handed over to the Panchayats once the mission is completed.
While appreciating the global and national recognition of Ladakh for implementation of JJM, Commissioner/Secretary, Ajeet Kumar Sahu hailed the hard work of all the concerned officers and officials associated with JJM.
Stressing on the sustainability of JJM, Sahu through virtual mode said the design aspect of the JJM work is important to ensure its sustainability in long run and directed to ensure that designs are within the prescribed parameters.
Given the harsh climatic conditions in Ladakh, Sahu said the tap location and insulation are important aspects that need to be taken seriously. He also said that studies have shown that tap location is best placed within a closed area or preferably inside the greenhouse.
DC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve said that JJM emphasizes capacity-building workshops to enhance the potential of the concerned officials and agencies associated with the scheme. He urged all the participants to take maximum benefits of the workshop, have detailed discussions and deliberations with experts to achieve the target on given time.
The technical session of the workshop focused on topics such as techno-managerial assessments, DPR Appraisal, best practices in cold and hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh.
