Training held for cultivating peace in 21st century in CIBS

A four-day training program on Peace Building and Intercultural Understanding, Recipeace - cultivating peace in the 21st century got concluded on July 20 at Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar. 

The training program was organized by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Inter-Religious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, RC Chandigarh and Central Institute of Buddhist Studies.

The training was divided into four modules-Peaces within me-in which the participants discovered the unexplored stories of their lives by reflecting their life’s journey.

The second module focused on the interpersonal relations and finding the peace between YOU and ME which included sessions like Johari Window and Non-Violent Communication which can be used as a tool to develop peace around us. 

The third module brought very deep thinking and analysis in the space as the sessions included Gender and the Conflict, Social Inequalities, Stereotypes and Diversity which made the participants think and discuss how the society plays an important role in developing peace and reducing conflicts. And the last module focused on intercultural understanding among participants coming from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

 On the closing day,  Dr.  Kottu Sekhar, Coordinator, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, RC Chandigarh said, “Creating peace can be made possible only when people like us who are associated with the youth work towards it.” 

He also mentioned the importance of such training in the Peace building process in communities. 

Geshes Konchok Wangdus, Director CIBS brought out the importance of meditation and being vegetarian in creating peace within us and among others. 

Amanpreet, Fellow KAICIID reiterated the training imparted during the four day and stress on how the participants can replicate the leanings in their day to day lives.
 
The training was a way to bring together peace builders from distinct backgrounds, cultures and religions on a platform and to explore various methods to reduce conflicts by developing an understanding of each other’s cultures.
