Training for progressive female farmers held in Kargil
A day-long farmers' conference/training session for the progressive female farmers of Kargil was organised at Agriculture Hall, Kurbathang on March 20.
The conference was organised by the Department of Agriculture, LAHDC, Kargil.
Chief guest of the occasion, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve expressed happiness that the agriculture department has taken the initiative to train farmers on progressive practices of farming.
He asserted cash crop production and said that apart from farming, revenue can also be generated from fisheries and animal products.
The DC said the district administration has always made attempts for the welfare of farmers and the distribution of Ladakh GreenHouse provided under the Subsidy Component is a part of that vision. He urged the farmers to take maximum benefits of such initiatives and welfare schemes to increase the production of crops for their survival and revenue generation.
Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Mohammad Ali Khan thanked the dignitaries and farmers for attending the event and said that the purpose of the training program is to give awareness and training related to the best practices for crop production.
He also talked about various welfare schemes and activities undertaken by the department for the welfare of farmers.
Khan said that apart from self-sustenance through farming the farmers should be able to generate revenue from crop production and should be able to provide employability.
The farmers were aware of the production of Millets as 2023 is designated as the global year of Millets.
During the event, various resource persons including Principal Scientist, Dr. Faizan Ahmed and Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kargil, Dr. Nasreen Fatima; Dr. Rigzin gave training about different practices of efficient and productive farming.
