SANKAR :
A newly built three additional classrooms under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was inaugurated by Thupstan Chhewang, MP at Govt. Middle School, Sankar on September 1.
It was constructed with an amount of ₹ 7 lakh released under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and ₹ 5 lakh donated by Thupstan Chhewang.
Thupstan Chhewang said, “Earlier the education system was not good but with time it has improved a lot. Along with knowledge, a teacher should have a good communication skill to impart the knowledge among students.”
He further said, “We see a lot of comparisons between the private and government schools but the fact is that we have more qualified teachers in government schools. Many people send their children to private school due to competition. If people send their children to government schools, definitely it will bring change”.
Later, he appeals to people to demand funds for education and health sectors rather than for community hall and monasteries.
Ven. Lobzang Nyantak said, “Due to the development people have started sending their children to private schools. Many people criticize having Nepali students in the govt. school but the fact is we should indeed be thankful to them as our teachers are able to work in Leh district itself.”
Tashi Dolma, Joint Director, School Education said, “We have dedicated and qualified teachers but the less enrolment of students in school often discourages teachers”.
She further appealed people to send their children to government schools. She informed that all the officers in the government departments are on the initial stage of discussion about sending their children to the government schools to set an example.
“There is no infrastructure problem, we have computer-aided learning facility in our school also”, she added.
Cultural performance was also presented on the occasion by the students.
Rinchen Lamo, Nominated Councilor for Women, Paldan Tundup, Zonal Education Officer, Diskit Dolma, VEC Chairmen Sankar and people of Sankar and Chubi-Katpa Leh were also present.
