Sheep husbandry department gets Disease Surveillance Centre and Geographic Information System lab

\r\nA newly established Disease Surveillance Centre (DSC) and GIS (Geographic Information System) laboratory of Sheep Husbandry Department, Leh was inaugurated on September 16 in Leh.\r\n

\r\nThe laboratory established under Pashmina Promotion Programme of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India was inaugurated by the Minister for Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department, J&K.\r\n

\r\nThe Disease Surveillance Centre is a high-tech laboratory facility currently being operated by the well-trained officers of the department. Dr. Mohd Abass, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (Microbiologist) assisted by a well-experienced laboratory assistant under the supervision and control of District Sheep Husbandry Officer Leh took 1600 fecal and 60 blood samples. The samples were taken to analyze and detection of various parasitic, bacterial and mycoplasmal diseases during the year. \r\n

\r\nThe department is planning for establishing facilities for molecular diagnosis of diseases through tests like PCR etc in future.  \r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nGeographic Information System stores, displays and analyses data associated with the geographic location.  The laboratory is being run by Dr. Asif Hussain, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon who is working on the rangeland dynamics of Changthang which includes mapping of all the seasonal pastures of the nomadic communities with other utilities.\r\n

\r\nThe minister also inspected and appreciated the effort of the department for establishing a Poultry Hatchery Centre at Chanspa. \r\n
