Secretary Transport chairs meeting on Rationalisation of Motor Vehicles in Ladakh
Meeting on rationalization of Motor Vehicles in Ladakh was chaired by Amit Sharma, IAS, Secretary Transport, Union Territory of Ladakh on October 6.
A committee had recently been constituted by the UT Administration to examine all the Motor Vehicle proposals from various departments so as to assess the current status and actual requirement of vehicles in the UT of Ladakh.
Secretary Transport Amit Sharma explained the basic objective and rationale behind the constitution of this all-important Committee under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Lieutenant Governor Brig (Retd) Dr. B.D Mishra and Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal so as to ensure that the transportation resources of the UT of Ladakh can be optimally and rationally utilised.
All the members of the Committee chaired by Transport Secretary Amit Sharma and including Director Accounts and Treasuries Safdar Ali, Deputy Director Planning Tsering Angdus, Deputy Director Garages Dr Namgyal and Under Secretary to LG Vivek Sharma, held detailed deliberations on the subject and later on briefed Advisor on the decisions arrived-in during this meeting.
The committee will have to initially acquire the data on all existing vehicles under usage in UT Ladakh and then decide on the rationalisation subsequently.
Further, Transport Secretary Amit Sharma directed the concerned to seek all the required data on newly purchased vehicles, old vehicles fit for condemnation and data on functional and public utility vehicles in the UT of Ladakh in a time-bound manner.
Amit Sharma said that once the requisite data is received by the Committee, a comprehensive report shall be prepared on the optimal requirement of motor vehicles in the UT of Ladakh and their rational utilization, especially keeping into consideration the tough terrains and severe weather conditions prevailing in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
