Secretary Cooperative convenes meeting on winter storage
Secretary, Cooperative, Ravinder Kumar discussed the operationalization of the 1000MT Cooperative cold storage unit at Agling on October 22.
Discussion on the action plan and SOP for proper utilization of the facility was discussed in detail for its operationalization and stocking of vegetables and other essentials.
Secretary, Ravinder instructed Cooperative Department to functionalize cold storage through Cooperative Marketing Societies of the district who will manage all stocking and management of the facility.
In the meeting, it was decided that the societies will procure and stock the vegetables and other allied items from the farmers from various villages and will stock them in the cold storage facility. It was further informed that this will help in marketing the surplus vegetable produce of the farmers and availability of the vegetables during lean winter months for the consumers. Moreover, they will run the unit on a trial basis and will manage all expenses and charges.
Further the Secretary added that for ensuring proper functioning and monitoring of the affairs of the cold storage unit, a managing committee will be constituted by the Administrative Department who will monitor the activities from time to time under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Leh.
He instructed Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Leh to submit a detailed guideline and modus operandi to be adopted for proper utilization of the facility following which a formal order will be issued by the Administrative Department for operationalization of cold storage through Cooperative Marketing Societies of the district.
The meeting was attended by Dr Mohd Abass, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Leh and representatives of various cooperative marketing Societies of Leh, Nubra and Nimo respectively.
