Review meeting on implementation of National Education Policy held
CEC, Hill Council, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan also the Chairman of District Level Task Force reviewed the functioning and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) on March 10.
A thorough discussion was held on different aspects of the implementation of the NEP in the Kargil district which focused on the academic career of students.
CEC Khan said that implementation of the NEP in the district is a vital task assigned to LAHDC Kargil by the UT Administration and all measures need to be taken for its early execution. He said efforts will be made while coordination between the concerned agencies is vital for which a committee or cell will be framed at the earliest and a nodal officer will be appointed for that. Regarding technical aspects of the implementation of local languages, he said a committee also needs to be framed.
He said that DIET has a vital role in the implementation of tasks related to the NEP and in this regard, the concerned agency should explore all possibilities in the proper execution of NEP in the district. He said that the mother tongue should be focussed on priority besides there is an urgency to produce literature in local vernacular languages and dialects.
Regarding the establishment of a school for special students, Khan directed the concerned department to prepare necessary documents and assured early redressal of the same.
DC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said that selection of local languages to prepare the curriculum is essential, moreover considering the employability constraints, English and Hindi should be equally explored.
The Deputy Commissioner said whatever policies will be framed, future generations and students should get benefits from it. He said apart from it short, medium and long-term goals must be identified for the implementation of NEP in Kargil.
He suggested monthly review meetings to check the status of implementation of NEP and stressed coordination between concerned agencies working with NEP.
Director Kargil Campus, UOL, Kaneez Fatima said that foundational literacy and numeracy should be focussed while grass-root level assessment and consultation must be done on priority.
Fatima said that local teachers must be engaged and the committee should thoroughly read different aspects of the NEP and other educational policies.
Sajjad Aga on behalf of the Education Department in a presentation on the implementation of NEP in Kargil highlighted various issues and objectives which were discussed at length including class hierarchy, integration of ICDS centres and schools, foundational literacy, reforms in the school curriculum, vocational education, multilingualism, power of language, teacher training, school governance and other issues were discussed.
During the meeting language experts of Shina, Balti and Purgi also shared their valuable suggestions and concerns besides concerned district officers (members) also gave their opinions and suggestions on the subject.
