Municipal Committee, Leh organises waste segregation drive
Promoting the virtue of kindness, Municipal Committee, Leh celebrated World Kindness Day by organising a day-long segregation drive at Solid waste Management plant, Skampari on November 13.
Director Urban Local Bodies, Zahida Bano, Officer/officials of Municipal Committee, and all staff/sweeper joined the day-long segregation drive.
Zahida Bano informed that the much-awaited solar power run 30 tons per day (TPD) Solid Waste Management Plant of Leh starts its process of collecting and treating solid wastes. She said that the most difficult procedure during the segregation bear by the worker is to separate the wet and dry waste and nearly all time is being used up in this process. Thus, appealed to the public to produce minimum garbage and to segregate the waste at the initial stage i.e. at home which may help during the final segregation.
The administration will be starting a movement themed “Clean Leh: our right, our waste & our responsibility” and “Segregation & Minimize Your Waste, we are at your doorstep” by Municipal Committee Leh in the coming days.
Informing about a separate garbage vehicle to be facilitated, Zahida requested people to use separate bins allocated for dry and wet garbage, plastic and glasses, etc. She further informed the general public, not to through garbage along the roadside and public places, CCTV camera has been installed at various public places and stated that strict action and heavy penalty will be imposed against the persons who violate the rules laid by MC Leh and also advised to become a responsible citizen.
