Meeting on implementation of Popularization of Mulberry Sericulture project in Kargil held
A team of scientists of Central Silk Board Pampore and Temperature Sericulture Research Institute SKUAST, Kashmir met EC, Agriculture, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohsin Ali on June 22 and discussed the implementation of a centrally sponsored Collaborative Research Project between CSR&TI Pampore and TSRI, SKUAST Kashmir for Kargil district.
A team of scientists includes Dr. Muttana, Dr. Satish Y, and Dr. Bhuroo Zafar.
Discussion on an extensive field survey of the Batalik sector for the feasibility of silkworm rearing demonstration to local unemployed youth under the project was carried out.
EC, Mohsin Ali showed interest in the creation of a Sericulture Department in the district as it has already been established that sericulture could be a viable income augmenting industry.
He assured that land for the establishment of a mulberry nursery shall be discussed with Central Silk Board, State Sericulture Department Kashmir, SKUAST Kashmir, and SKUAST Kargil.
It was informed that the scientist team has also held a detailed discussion in this regard with local-based Institutional heads of SKUAST including Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Head, MAR&ES SKUAST, Kargil, and Dr. Ghulam Mehdi Akhone, Head, KVK SKUAST, Kargil for their support in the execution of research project.
EC thanked the authorities of Central Silk Board and SKUAST Kashmir for their sincere efforts and hoped for furthering sericulture activities in the region for the betterment of farmers.
