LG Mathur discusses issues in education sector with Minister of Education
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur met Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, in New Delhi on May 3.
LG Mathur thanked the minister for recognition by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for all government schools of Ladakh. He requested intervention in the release of degree certificates and migration certificates for students of Ladakh who had studied at Suresh Gyan Vihar University in Jaipur. He discussed several other issues, including the appointment of Vice-Chancellor for the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS); funding for the adult literacy in Ladakh; the need to provide online education to students; funding for heating facilities in schools during the winters under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, winter uniforms for students and assistance in providing skill development training, promotion of entrepreneurship and tailor-made skill programmes for the youth from Ladakh.
He also requested continued assistance in providing training programmes for teachers to enable them to adapt to CBSE standards/curriculum.
Chairperson, National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS), Prof. Saroj Sharma, called on LG Mathur to discuss potential interventions in the development of the education system in Ladakh. She also informed that NIOS shall set up their office in Ladakh in May this year.
