LG Mathur discusses creation of UOL’s endowment fund Contributes part of his salary to the fund
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur convened a meeting with Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Prof SK Mehta; Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo and Registrar, UoL, Imteeaz Kacho on April 19 at Raj Niwas and discussed the creation of an endowment fund by the University of Ladakh (UoL).
VC UoL Prof SK Mehta briefed about the creation of an endowment fund with the help of donations to enable UoL to engage in long-term planning for critical projects in a sustainable manner. He informed that the endowment fund would enable UoL to build new infrastructure and undertake developmental activities.
The endowment fund would be utilised to provide financial help to needy students, encourage academic and all-around excellence through various scholarships, fund technical projects on campus and travel support, sponsor fellowship for research works, etc.
Prof SK Mehta further apprised that interested persons may contribute and donate through various payment options to enable the University to achieve its goal to become a world-class institution.
LG Mathur suggested that UoL may utilise the fund for organising various cultural exchange programmes for the benefit of the students. He suggested that the VC UoL may frame guidelines for the proper utilisation of the endowment funds.
He also reviewed the performances and enrolment of students in different government colleges in Leh and Kargil. He emphasised the need to strive for excellence in certain subjects, particularly those such as courses on petroglyphs, glaciology, etc. that can attract students from all over the world. He stressed the need to implement all the UGC guidelines in all the colleges of Ladakh.
LG Mathur contributed a part of his salary to the UoL's endowment fund.
Commissioner/Secretary Padma Angmo informed that National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has agreed to conduct a workshop for the teaching staff in all colleges to enable them to teach skill-based subjects and extra-curricular activities to students to make them employable.
LG Mathur stated that extra-curricular activities at the level of graduation may be encouraged to lay a strong foundation for the students of Ladakh. He also suggested that students may be provided with counselling while choosing subjects for their graduation courses.
