LG Ladakh, R K Mathur meets Director General, BRO Stresses opening of Shinkula pass and Zojila tunnel on priority basis
Radha Krishna Mathur, Lieutenant Governor discussed vital projects carried out by BRO in the Ladakh region with Lt. General, Harpal Singh, DG, BRO and several other senior officers on February 20.
Brigadier Amrinder Singh, Chief Engineer, Project Himank and Brigadier Amit Singh Sohal, Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak presented an overview of their respective Area of Responsibility (AoR). They gave recommendations for future projects which could help in mitigating the road connectivity issues of the region.
Different challenges faced by the BRO due to the high altitude terrain of work area and long supply of chain, as well as the requirement for additional equipment, proper identification of avalanche-prone stretches, etc. were highlighted. Measures such as a change in the alignment of roads, conducive clothing for labourers, and proper weather forecasts by the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) were recommended to deal with the challenges.
BRO thanked UT administration, particularly the Lieutenant Governor for timely intervention and support in the land acquisition proposals in Ladakh.
Acknowledging the tremendous amount of work done by the BRO, Radha Krishna Mathur assured all possible support to make Ladakh well-connected and a carbon-neutral area.
He stressed on the opening of Shinkula pass and Zojila tunnel on a priority basis to make the region round the year accessible.
