Leaders and villagers present memorandum for proposed Sham district

Stakeholders discussing the establishment of the proposed New Sham District with new district committee.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, participated in the New District Committee consultation meeting on November 19 to discuss the establishment of the proposed New Sham District.

The committee, chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), includes members Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), and Tsering Angchuk, IAS (Retd.), along with ex-officio member Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS.

Councillors from the Sham region, including Lobzang Sherab, Smanla Norboo, Morup Dorjey, Tashi Tundup, and Lundup Dorjey, as well as Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) Mohd Sharief (Khaltsi) and Sajjad Hussain (Likir), attended the meeting. Other key attendees included Tsering Nurboo, President of the LBA Sham Region; Tsewang Stobdan, President of the Nambardar Association Sham; Tsering Tsomo, President of the Women’s Wing, LBA Sham; and representatives from various villages.

The committee engaged in consultations with stakeholders, including the Sham Coordination Committee, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Sham Region, and the Nambardar Association Sham.

President of LBA Sham, Tsering Nurboo, expressed gratitude to the committee for their efforts and emphasized the importance of establishing a fully functional district headquarters in Khaltsi.

Councillors and village representatives presented their concerns and suggestions, submitting a detailed memorandum addressing key issues such as:
•    Establishing the district headquarters.
•    Defining district boundaries.
•    Creating new sub-divisions, tehsils, blocks, and naibats.
•    Rationalizing panchayat halqas and revenue villages.
•    Setting up administrative posts.

The committee assured stakeholders that their demands were noted and pledged to work towards establishing the new district efficiently and systematically.
