Ladakh bids farewell to Professor Dr. Jamyang Gyalson

Dr. Jamyang Gyalson, a prominent author, State Award recipient in literature, and esteemed professor, passed away on January 4. His funeral was held on January 9 at his residence in Choglamsar, Leh. Family members, friends, students, and monks gathered to pay their respects to the late scholar. Executive Councilor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee and other renowned figures from the community were also in attendance.

One of his former students, visibly moved by the loss, shared, “Dr. Jamyang Gyalson was more than just a teacher; he was a guiding light for many of us. His wisdom and compassion extended beyond the classroom. He was a parent figure to us, and we are here to honor his memory and offer our condolences to his family.”

Dr. Gyalson made significant contributions to the study of social issues and the history of Ladakh. He served as a professor of Bhoti Language and Literature at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) in Choglamsar, Leh. His legacy will continue to inspire and influence future generations through his teachings and the values he imparted.
