L-G Mathur reviews implementation of NEP 2020 in higher education institutes in Ladakh
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur chaired a meeting and reviewed the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in higher education institutes in Ladakh.
Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh (UoL), Prof SK Mehta; Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo; Dean, Academic Affairs, UoL, Prof Deskyong Namgyal and Director, Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima attended the meeting.
LG Mathur highlighted the need for introducing smart classrooms in all the colleges and both UoL campuses in Leh and Kargil with high-speed internet connectivity through OFC cables and VSAT under NEP in the next financial year. He also suggested the extension of National Informatics Centre (NIC) to provide National Knowledge Network connectivity in both UoL campuses and all degree colleges in Leh and Kargil.
LG Mathur emphasised on the need for imparting orientation programmes to the students and developing linkages with international bodies, top NGOs, experts, etc. to expand the knowledge base of students. He stressed on the need for establishing an independent cell to provide soft skills such as personality development to the students. He suggested that UoL may collaborate with organisations such as British Council to provide language learning skills to the students.
He also suggested forming a group of top tribal experts to advise on the way forward for Tribal Research Institute.
Director, Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima, gave a detailed presentation on Implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 with a focus on access, quality and future readiness, the vision of NEP, initiatives taken by UoL for the implementation of NEP 2020, initiatives proposed for students, faculty members, development of the institute and employability; issues and challenges in implementing NEP 2020 in higher education, etc.
