India Post J&K highlights parcel service enhancements in Ladakh to L-G
Chief Postmaster General, India Post, Jammu and Kashmir, Kalpana Rajsinghot, and Superintendent of Post Offices, Ladakh Division, Rajeev Sharma, met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on June 26.
The Lieutenant Governor inquired about the delays in delivering mail sent through India Post and discussed the initiatives being taken to address the issue to prevent inconvenience to the public.
Kalpana briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the improvements made by India Post in delivering mail and parcels in Ladakh. These improvements include:
- Special dispensation for Ladakh to airlift mail, parcels, and cargo during the winter months at India Post's expense.
- Operation of a one-ton vehicle between Leh and Srinagar (and vice versa) to deliver mail, parcels, and cargo.
- Deployment of extra vehicles for mail and parcel delivery in interior parts of Ladakh.
She also highlighted a three-fold increase in India Post’s parcel business in Ladakh within the past year.
Assuring the Lieutenant Governor that she would address the issue of mail delivery delays in Ladakh, Kalpana also mentioned the challenge India Post faces due to the lack of space for sorting mail and parcels in Ladakh.
The Lieutenant Governor assured her that he would take up the matter with the concerned Ministry and explore the option of providing sorting space at the KBR Airport in Leh.
