GDC Kargil observes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking
International Day Against Drug Trafficking and Illicit Drug Trafficking was observed by GDC Kargil in collaboration with the Narcotic Cell of the District Police Department on June 27.
The two-day long program comprised poster making, a debate competition, and a talk by a guest speaker in which students of the college participated.
Sub Inspector, Tsering Nawang, Incharge of Narcotic Cell, Police Department spoke about the scenario of drug abuse in Kargil through powerpoint presentations. He informed in detail about different kinds of drugs and illicit substances in the context of the Ladakh region. He also talked about the ill effects of drugs and drug abuse on individual and social health.
Tsering Nawang, Incharge, Principal GDC Kargil, Saleem Ahmad (Sr. Assistant Professor) also presented their thoughts regarding the day. He said drug usage by an individual makes his/her whole family suffers.
In the end, prizes were distributed among the winners of poster-making and debate competitions. In poster making competition, Hakima Tabassum, Ghulam Mehdi, and Zahra Batool (5th-semester students) bagged first, second and third positions respectively. Among the participants of the debate competition, Shehnaz Fatima (5th Semester), Kaneez Fatima (3rd semester), and Zakir Hussain (5th semester) were awarded first, second and third positions respectively.
