GDC Drass hosts seminar on menstrual health and hygiene for students
The Department of English and Sociology at GDC Drass, under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, organized a seminar on Menstrual Health and Hygiene in the college Seminar Hall on October 8.
The event aimed to address the challenges affecting the health and hygiene of girl students while combating the stigmas and persistent taboos surrounding menstruation. The program began with an overview of menstrual health presented by Assistant Professor Archo Fatima Nissa, who educated participants about the menstrual cycle.
A group discussion among students facilitated an understanding of the nuances and core issues faced by girl students in their daily lives, allowing participants to identify individual concerns encountered during their periods.
Dr. Samina Rahman, Assistant Professor of Sociology, demonstrated the body's mechanisms during menstruation. She emphasized the importance of understanding one's body to effectively manage menstrual health, alleviate period pain, and deal with related challenges.
Students were also instructed on how to register for period-tracking apps to monitor their monthly cycles, predict symptoms, and enhance body awareness.
Assistant Professor Parveen Fatima also spoke at the seminar, highlighting ways to maintain menstrual hygiene and sanitation. She discussed eco-friendly options, such as menstrual cups and reusable sanitary pads, encouraging students to prioritize menstrual health.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Samina Rahman, with around 60 students participating in the event.
