Extensive earthquake mock drill conducted in Drass to enhance community preparedness

A comprehensive earthquake mock drill was held  in the Sub Division of Drass on August 22, involving various key stakeholders to enhance community preparedness and education on effective response measures during seismic events.

The drill aimed to improve coordination and readiness among different agencies and the local population in the event of an earthquake.

The exercise commenced with an in-depth demonstration led by Sajad Hussain, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at Govt. Degree College Drass, and Noor Mohd, Zonal Physical Incharge. They provided vital insights on earthquake safety and emphasized the importance of preparedness.

Abdullah Khan, SHO Drass, underscored the significance of immediate and coordinated action during such emergencies.

The mock drill was conducted under the supervision of Incharge SDM Drass, Ghulam Asgar, who highlighted the importance of these exercises in a region prone to seismic activity. He also commended the collaboration between civil administration, law enforcement, and the military in ensuring the safety of Drass residents.

The Indian Army played a crucial role in the drill's success, offering essential support through their Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and Medical Units. Subedar Rajinder and Havaldar Kuldeep of the Army Police led the military's participation, ensuring discipline and coordination throughout the exercise. The medical team, led by Subedar Patil Kamalakar, demonstrated emergency medical procedures, including first aid and the safe transport of injured individuals.

The drill simulated a real-life earthquake scenario, where participants practiced evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, and the establishment of emergency response centers. The event underscored the necessity of collaboration among various agencies to effectively manage disaster situations.

Volunteers from the Ulama Council Drass also participated enthusiastically. The residents of Drass actively engaged in the drill, practicing evacuation techniques and gaining hands-on experience in emergency response. The mock drill served as a vital reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters and the ongoing need for preparedness.

SDM Drass thanked all participants and collaborators, including the Indian Army, police, and educational institutions, for their dedication to the safety and well-being of the community. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to conducting regular drills and training sessions to ensure that Drass residents are well-prepared for any natural disaster.
