DM, Kargil, orders prohibition on selling, buying of frozen chicken
Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, District Magistrate, Kargil through an order issued on April 29 has banned the selling and buying of frozen chicken in the district.
The order states that as intimated by official sources from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, frozen chickens stored since October/November 2019 are being supplied to Ladakh by road. Therefore, in the interest of public health it has been ordered that there shall be complete ban on selling and buying of frozen chickens in the entire district.
The order further states that only live chickens shall be allowed to be transported from Srinagar/Jammu to Kargil and the Market Checking Squad already constituted by the DM’s office shall ensure that no frozen chickens are sold in the market.
Vide the order, all the Sub Divisional Magistrates and Executive Magistrates on duty have also been directed to ensure that no frozen chickens are sold in their respective jurisdictions.
"Any Vendor/Outlet/Shop/Individual found selling frozen chickens shall be booked, fined and punished under law", reads the order.
Moreover, Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Kargil has been directed to inform and coordinate with the members of the Market Checking Squad to immediately conduct frequent market checking.
