Director Dr. Mohd Iqbal visits Drass subdivision for fisheries inspection

Director of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, UT Ladakh, Dr. Mohd Iqbal, conducted a visit to Drass Subdivision on June 8.

Accompanied by Dr. Iftiqar Hussain, JD Sheep Husbandry Department UT Ladakh; Dr. Gulzar Hussain, CAHO Kargil; Dr. Zakir Hussain, Deputy Director Cooperatives Kargil; and Murtaza Ali, Assistant Director Fisheries, Kargil, Dr. Iqbal inspected the trout rearing units and hatcheries constructed under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes of the Prime Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Expressing satisfaction with the functioning of the rearing units and hatcheries, particularly during the inspection of a private rearing and trout hatchery unit established by a private fish farmer at Majidgam Drass, Dr. Iqbal reiterated the department's commitment to strengthening the rural economy through vibrant and viable fish farming.

He emphasized the success of the PMMSY flagship program in the district, which provides a 60 percent subsidy on unit costs, addressing fish production deficits and unemployment issues in rural areas.

Additionally, Dr. Iqbal reviewed various developmental activities at the Fish Farm Khandiyal Drass. The Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kargil, informed that ₹10 lakh has been earmarked under District Capex for the renovation of the Fish Farm for the fiscal year 2024-25.
