A meeting cum training programme was organised on May 17 at the Auditorium Hall, Kargil, to ensure the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha election in the district. The session was attended by zonal, sector magistrates, and police officers.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner/District Election Officer (DEO), Kargil, Shrikant Suse.

Speaking on the occassion, the DEO emphasised the importance of officers taking their responsibilities with utmost care and seriousness. He urged them to remain proactive on the ground to ensure a free, fair, and smooth election process during the Lok Sabha election.

The DEO sensitised the officers about their crucial role and responsibilities under the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He directed all concerned officers to ensure strict compliance with various norms related to EVM handling, poll day reporting, security measures, and measures to ensure voter identification and their entry into polling stations as per ECI norms.

The officers were also instructed to ensure the reporting of voter turnout on polling day well within the given timelines. Webcasting and CCTV monitoring are being implemented at all critical polling stations, along with video recording, as per norms. micro observers will be deployed at these polling stations to observe the polling process.

During the meeting, SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R (IPS), provided general instructions to the Sector/Zonal Magistrates and police officers regarding the deployment of CAPF, the role of the Police, and proactive handling of law and order on poll day.

ADC Kargil, Suhail Ahmad, briefed about the responsibilities and authorities of Sector/Zonal Magistrates, such as poll eve responsibility, poll day responsibility, and post-poll responsibility.

DIO NIC Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain, spoke about the PAMS software and its usage by the Sector/Zonal Magistrates for reporting poll day events during the election.

Additionally, the District Level Master Trainer provided detailed orientation to Sector and Zonal Magistrates regarding the use of EVMs and VVPATs.
