Cooperative Dept Leh organises one-day awareness program
A one-day awareness program –cum- cooperative movement was organised by the Cooperative Department, Leh at Chemday village on June 24.
EC, Stanzin Chosphel briefed the general public about various activities carried out by the Cooperative Department through Consumer Cooperative Societies in providing essential commodities of daily use on nominal at District headquarters to the village level cooperative outlets or the marketing cooperative societies extending marketing support for the local vegetable produce of the farmers and role of various types of cooperative societies in the development of the rural economy.
He further stressed upon the farmers to strengthen the cooperative societies through their support for a sustainable source of livelihood for the farmers and consumers.
Councillor Sakti, Rigzin Namgial expressed his gratitude to the Cooperative Department and Executive Councillor, Cooperative, LAHDC, Leh, and UT Administration for organising such awareness camps about the importance of cooperative movement for the overall development of the farmers and consumers.
Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Leh briefed the gathering about the various schemes of Cooperative Department for the development of Cooperative sector and threw light on objectives behind organising such awareness camps so that both farmers get due to market avenues through marketing societies and to bring both the society officials and the farmers on a single platform for better improvement and efficiency of the services rendered by the marketing Cooperative Societies, Leh.
Further, it was informed that to prevent the use of chemical fertilizers and the long-term health hazards associated with the use of chemical fertilizers, the department of Cooperative is reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and is being replaced with farmyard manure and vermicompost which are being provided to the farmers on up to 80% subsidy under Special Development Package.
Moreover, DRC, Leh also informed the farmers about the revival of the dairy sector by way of the functioning of the upcoming Milk Pasteurization plant at Agling which is expected to function soon. It was informed that the Cooperative Department has purchased all the required machinery under Special Development Package, 2021-22. Further, it was informed that this would revive the dairy sector of the district in particular for regular bulk supply to the army and local market.
The village representatives including Sarpanch, Nambardars of Sakti and Chemday villages respectively, General Secretaries of Cooperative Marketing Society Kharu and Jai Jawan Jai Kissan Cooperative Ltd, and officials of Cooperative Department were present during the event.
