CEC flags off women progressive farmers for exposure visit, workshop in Srinagar
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, flagged off a group of women progressive farmers from various blocks of Kargil for an exposure visit and workshop in Srinagar on October 11.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujataba, Chief Agriculture Officer of Kargil, and other officials from the Agriculture Department, along with the progressive farmers.
In his address, the CEC congratulated the Agriculture Department for organizing the exposure tour, emphasizing that it would help farmers upgrade their skills and gain insights into modern farming techniques. He noted that while Kargil has significant farming potential, a lack of knowledge and proper training has hindered more active engagement in the sector.
The CEC encouraged the farmers to strengthen self-help groups, which he believes will generate substantial income opportunities in the future. He highlighted that these groups could further train local farmers, creating a pool of modern farmers equipped with advanced farming techniques. He also mentioned that many locally produced products have the potential to be exported beyond Ladakh.
As part of the ceremony, the CEC handed over a multi-utility van to a progressive farmer from Thasgam Thuvina village, which was procured through the LAHDC Subsidy Component.
