Advisor Narula reviews implementation of Consumer Protection Act
Advisor Ladakh, Umang Narula convened a meeting regarding implementation of Consumer Protection Act on January 22.
The meeting was attended by Saugat Biswas, Secretary FCS&CA; Preet Pal Singh, Secretary Law & Justice; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya; Director FCS&CA, Ladakh, Anil Koul and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Tsering Motup.
The Secretary Law briefed about the legal provisions covering the constitution of various Commissions under the Consumer Protection Act and their functions.
Secretary FCS&CA informed the meeting that the department is working on proposals to constitute the requisite quasi-judicial commissions and councils mandated under the Act.
Umang Narula asked Secretary FCS&CA to constitute the requisite commissions at the earliest.
The Deputy Commissioners were asked to take active cognizance of the complaints pertaining to violation of consumer rights and unfair trade practices. They were directed to ensure adequate availability of essential items in the markets and conduct regular inspections of the markets to check hoarding and charging of exorbitant prices.
