ADC Ghulam Mohd chairs NCORD meeting to tackle drug trafficking in Leh district
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Leh, Ghulam Mohd, convened a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Center (NCORD) Mechanism on August 16 at the VC room of the DC office to address the issue of drug trafficking in Leh district.
Committee members discussed the prevailing issue of drug trafficking in Leh and explored ways to promote awareness among youth and the general public to curb this menace. The discussion also included the exchange of information on emerging drug trafficking trends. Ladakh Police provided a brief on the progress of investigations in cases with cross-state implications.
The District Social Welfare Officer informed the committee about the operational and fully equipped Rehabilitation Centre. It was agreed that the center should be widely publicized through various platforms to raise awareness and encourage its use as a counseling resource for substance abuse victims.
The Health Department highlighted the misuse of medicines such as Pregabalin and substitutes for cool lip among the youth. The District Drug Controller was instructed to restrict the sale of such medicines to prescription-only. Additionally, the committee suggested that the sale of chewable tobacco products should also be restricted.
Further, the Department of Social Welfare shared ongoing efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to control drug use among students, including initiatives like Nukkad Natak, flash mobs, and other activities. The introduction of new techniques, such as the Club concept, was seen as an effective way to engage students in various activities and keep their minds occupied.
The meeting was attended by members of the District Level Committee under the NCORD Mechanism.
