A review meeting for the temporary and permanent restoration works of irrigation Khuls near the headwork of 44 MW Chutak Hydel Project was convened on April 3 at Kargil.
Chairing the meeting, Haji Gulzar Hussain, DC Kargil expressed disappointment over the unsatisfactory implementation of the decisions taken in the previous meeting. He directed the NHPC authorities to complete the remaining temporary and permanent restoration works in due course of time.
The early completion of this works can help to mitigate the sufferings of Minjee and adjacent villages that are facing the shortage of irrigational water.
Haji Gulzar Hussain urged upon the concerned officers to charge water in the irrigation khuls within two days without fail so as to prevent damage to the crops in villages fed by these khuls.
He also directed the Senior Manager, NHPC, Kargil and his engineers to actively pursue the DPRs submitted for permanent restoration of the khuls. He fixed the deadline for the start of project from June 2018.
On demand of the representatives of the affected villages, he directed the concerned to pay compensation on account of damage to crops to the villagers of Youkma Minjee, installation of lift pump for Stikchay area and immediate clearance of boulders and sludge from Minjee Gund Khul.
Haji Gulzar Hussain also issued directions for the constitution of joint teams comprising of the officers of NHPC, Revenue and I&FC departments for preparation of DPR for permanent restoration of left out khuls besides to assess the crop damages due to the unavailability of water.
