A 32-year -old young man was arrested on 31 August on charges of raping and killing an 55 years old woman, whose body was found in her house at Sheynam. The case FIR No. 149/22 is registered U/S 302 IPC at Police Station Leh.

At 3 am on August 31^st, Police Station Leh received an information that a lady age 55yrs, has been found murdered  with blood all over her face in her house  at Sheynam.  Accordingly police party from Police Station  Leh led by Inspector Sonam Rigzin SHO P/S Leh and Police Party of PP Housing Colony led by Inspector Rigzin Gurmet reached the spot.

The investigation team led by DySP Hqtrs Rigzin Sangdup then started making queries with the neighbours to find probable suspects. Upon investigation it was found that a person namely Rigzin Dawa S/o Morup Stanzin R/o Sheynam age 32yrs is a notorious character residing nearby, and so the police party went to check on his whereabouts. When the police party found him in his room, the suspicion got stronger as some blood stains were found on his leg and scratch marks were also there on his neck and shoulder. When queried about the marks, he got agitated which further strengthened the suspicion. 

From the investigation so far it is found that the victim was subjected to rape and physical assault and was killed by the accused by choking her throat. The accused came to the house of the victim at around 0130hrs, tried to rape the victim and beat her after she showed resistance and during the scuffle he mercilessly killed her before committing the act. Important evidence like the undergarments of the accused was also recovered from the scene of crime and further evidences are to be sent to FSL for further investigation. 

The quick and timely action of the police party helped in nabbing the accused and important evidences were also collected, crucial to link the accused to the victim.

SSP Leh P.D. Nitya IPS also visited the scene of crime and closely supervise the investigation team.
