Druk Padma Karpo School (DPKS) celebrated 12th Founders Day

Druk Padma Karpo School on 24 September, 2013 celebrated their Annual Day/ Founders Day where DC/CEO Simrandeep Singh was the Chief Guest. The students had also displayed various thankas and exhibition.

The foundation stone for Druk Padma School was laid by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukchen Rinpochey on 24 September 2001with an aim of maintaining the rich cultural traditions, based on Tibetan Buddhism, while equipping the children for a life in the 21st Century.
 
On the eve of the 12th founder’s day, Principal Prasad in his welcome speech gave a brief description about the achievements of the school from last few years.
He appreciated the staff and the students for securing 92 percent pass result last year which was the first batch of matric students of the school since its foundation. He added that apart from studies the school stresses on the overall development of the child and the main concern of the school is to put the needs and priorities of the students at the top. At the beginning there were only 88 students and 8 staff members but now under the guidance of His Holiness the role has risen up to 658 students.

DC Simrandeep Singh, sharing his experience in Ladakh for the past few months expressed that “there is immense talent in the Ladakhi students be it in sports, extra activities, academics etc. that makes me to think why the going is tough for the government schools. The kind of effort being put in by the management and principals of various schools that are not as old as the government schools but the kind of development that they have evolved that throws the challenge on the survival of the government school”.

He further added that the exhibition displayed by the students shows their clarity of mind and vision and congratulated the faculty for guiding the students in such a manner and further expressed his happiness on the quality of work and writing that the students have done in the school magazine.

Speaking about the achievements of the school Diskit Dolker, head girl DPKS said that the school have been participating in many co curricular activities like drawing, painting, essays, debates and quiz competition etc. Prominent among which is the ‘La ngonpo project’ under Global Development School Exchange Programme. The school bagged 1st position in girls football competition match for three consecutive years.

The students also performed cultural programmes based on different themes, yoga, marshal art,   a hilarious performance on the evils of corruption  and a beautiful skit on the various stages of life depicting that life itself is the only story hooked the attention of the audiences. At the end of the programme students were awarded prizes for their excellent work in all the streams.
