A three-day conference on the theme “Culture of Ladakh and Youth Responsibility” was started on June 5 in Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium, CIBS Choglamsar.

The conference was organised by Ladakh Student Welfare Committee (CIBS) in collaboration with Ladakh Student’s Welfare Association and Central University of Tibetan Studies (CUTS), Varanasi.

On the inaugural day, MP Thupstan Chhewang stressed the importance of preservation of culture and said that it is the identity and is the responsibility of younger generation to value it.

He further added that India is unique for its diverse culture and the unity and respect among every faith and ideology. He suggested the organiser to organise the conference every year and assured for the necessary support and help.

Talking about the Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA, Leh said that wearing traditional dress, eating traditional food and singing folk songs not merely described culture rather these are the part of the culture. The real culture of Ladakh is the development of quality heart that makes one with inner value, morality, and a man of principles.

Geshes Konchok Wangdus, Director CIBS said that the culture of Ladakh is very rich and has its own signature in the whole world but sadly we are witnessing the change. The sole responsibility to save it from extinction and to preserve it for the future generation lies upon today’s youth.

Talking about the significance of commemoration of renowned personalities like Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche, Mahatma Gandhi and many others, he said that it is very important to remember those who have selflessly served their entire life for the betterment of the society.

 

These people have brought tremendous changes in nation building and their thoughts and teachings can never be forgotten.

Speaking about growing materialistic greed, globalisation, rising identity crisis all over the world Geshes said that the problem will be curb by developing the cultured mind. 

Dolma Tsering, President, Student Welfare Committee CIBS expressed the importance and the need to understand the responsibility of each and every person for the preservation of age-old tradition and culture passed by our ancestors.

Professor Jamyang Gyaltsan, Padmashree awardee Morup Namgyal, Tsering Motup Administrative Officer, CIBS and students from various schools of Leh district were present.
