DC Kargil visits entrepreneurship and processing units at Kurbathang and Chanigund, assures support to local startups and artisans
Deputy Commissioner/ CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar on May 26 visited various entrepreneurship and processing units in Kurbathang and Chanigund to review their functioning and encourage local entrepreneurs working in different sectors.
The visit was conducted in the presence of officers from the Horticulture Department and other concerned departments.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the Halman Apricot Processing Unit at Kurbathang and reviewed various processing activities related to apricot and Sea Buckthorn products. The officials informed the DC about different processing techniques including boiling, steaming, pulp extraction and CO2 extraction methods. It was also informed that production activities under the startup initiative are expected to commence from next month. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the entrepreneurs and noted the increasing market demand for Sea Buckthorn oil and pulp products.
During the interaction with members of The Organic Ladakh Cooperative, the DC assured full administrative support and advised the concerned stakeholders to prepare detailed proposals regarding machinery and infrastructure so that necessary assistance under government schemes can be facilitated.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Ladakh Local Wood Carving Unit at Kurbathang and inspected various locally crafted wooden products including traditional tables and other decorative items.
Emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting local craftsmanship, the DC assured support for marketing, promotion and export of locally made products to strengthen tourism and generate employment opportunities for local youth.
The Deputy Commissioner also visited the Mushroom Production Unit at Chanigund, where he interacted with local entrepreneurs and workers associated with the unit.
He appreciated their efforts towards self-employment and entrepreneurship and encouraged them to further expand their activities. The DC assured support through various government schemes aimed at promoting startups, skill development and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the district.
