Kargil :
Almost after six months the Srinagar- Leh Highway will reopen in the last week of April.

Chief Engineer VIJAYAK Mohan Lal visited Zero Point Gumri on 18th April who declared that the road from Kargil side has been cleared for one-way traffic.

Mohan Lal said that within next four days project Beacon will also complete the work and the road will be re- open for vehicular traffic from 25th (tentative) subject to weather condition.

The snow clearance work on the strategically important Srinagar Ladakh National Highway is going on from both sides by Project Vijayak from Kargil side and Project Beacon from Srinagar side.

He said that BRO invested Rupees 30-40 Lakh for clearing snow from the 40 Km patch from Drass to Gumri Zero Point.
He congratulated the team of VIJAYAK for the achievement and appreciated the team which comprises mostly of local youths.

He directed the team to start widening the road for double traffic and hoped that in few days expected avalanches on the key point will occur which will ease the movement later.

Mohan Lal told that the bridge at Matayen Nallah has been installed and operated today as this year the water level in the river is huge which will increase in days to come and to overcome this river crossing problem the bridge has been installed earlier.

Answering the question about any reorganization from the State Government to the boys for such a tremendous job Chief Engineer told that the team feels immense pleasure in connecting the people of Ladakh as well as Indian Army with the rest of the world which is the best reward.

Ladakh is cut off from the rest of world from the last five months and people in Ladakh are eagerly waiting for the opening of the road as there is a shortage of many essential commodities.
