Two archery teams selected for National level Archery competition to be held in Bangalore

Three teams from Ladakh participated in the 3rd Archery Tournament which was held in Spiti, Kaza organised by Himalayan Traditional Archery Society on September 1 and two teams out of three was selected for the upcoming national level archery competition to be held in Bangalore in December, this year.

The archery team was flagged off by CEC, Rigzin Spalbar on 27 August  from Council secretariat and the teams were Ladakh Team A, Team B and Team C which comprises of 17 members. 

Skalzang Dorje, from Spiti an International archery and Asian Gold medallist was the Chief Guest on the occasion and President,Traditional archery society of Ladakh , Nawang Rinchen was the guest of honour. Over 42 teams from the Himalayan belt participated in the 3rd Archery Tournament competition.

Nawang Rinchen said, “This is the traditional game of Ladakh and we should preserve it. As per my observation Archery is not only a sport of Ladakh and Himalayan belt but it seems that archery is the traditional game of India. Our objective is to revive the folk game. We are further planning to make it better. But today we have lack of funds and cannot do much. CEC, Rigzin Spalbar has allotted some land for us in Saboo. We are trying to impart some training for the younger generation so that they will not forget our own traditional game."

Today archery is reviving and is played at the Olympics Level and also we got invitation from Mongolia and many more places to participate in the tournament, he rued.
President, Traditional archery society of Ladakh, Nawang Rinchen was also honoured with state award from Himachal Govt. for reviving the traditional archery in the Himalayan belt.

The team also exhibits archery exhibition and culture at Jispa and Keylong.

It was initiated from last three years to revive the traditional game in the Himalayan belt. Some monetary assistance was given by Angchuk, Mentokling and the exhibition and culture was supported by J&K, Culture Academy, Leh.

The first top three positions was bagged by Teams of Ladakh, Team A bagged the 1st position,  Team B second and Team C third respectively. Besides that individuals were also honoured for their skills, Angchuk Phyang bagged the 1st position, Sonam Motup, Nubra  bagged 2nd Position and Tashi Basgo bagged 3rd position.

Two teams from Ladakh were selected for the upcoming archery competition going to held in Bangalore in the month of December, this year.

Later the Chief Guest distributed medals to the winners.

Traditional archery society of Ladakh was established to revive the folk sport of Ladakh in 2012 with 35 members.
