Martyrs Traditional Archery Cup held in Leh

Martyrs traditional Archery Cup was held on 27th September at Skyatsaks near Petrol Leh. The tournament is conducted with an aim to preserve, promote and encourage youths to excel in archery. The prime vision of this event was to collect funds for the families who are affected in the recent flood disaster.

Ven. Lama Lobzang was the chief guest of the occasion. Ladakh Buddhist Association, President Tsewang Thinles, Ladakh Women Association, President Tsewang Dolma, LBA youth president, Sponsors and supporters were present on the occasion. 

This tournament was organized by Ladakh Buddhist Association (Youth Wing) to commemorate the brave souls Ven. Lobzang Tsondus Likir and Tashi Angchuk Saspol who laid down their lives during the 1981 agitation for Schedule tribe status in Ladakh and Tsewang Dorjey Saboo, Nawang Rinchen Sankar and Tsering Stobdan Durbuk for their sacrifice on for the cause of demand for Union Territory status for the Ladakh region. 

Speaking on the Occasion, Ven. Lama Lobzang expressed the happiness and proud to see the tremendous development in archery as compared to the past years. He said archery is the sports which is very important part of our culture and tradition. It is important to preserve our culture and tradition along with all the modern education we acquired. He stressed the youths of Ladakh to give value and preserve the old rich tradition and culture of Ladakh. 

Around 21 teams took part in the competition. The Gold medal was bagged by Zambala Returns; Zambala bagged Silver medal and Skara Red with Bronze medal.  The archer who hits maximum on the target was Mohammad Shafi -Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre A, runner up Mohammad Arif –Skara Red and second runner up Tsewang Gyatso – Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh (Tasol) Red. 

The event was lighted up by the cultural program presented by the student of Mahabodhi Residential School
