Tobacco free youth campaign 3.0 launched in Kargil to promote health awareness

Kargil :

The District Health Society, Kargil, launched the “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0” at the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC), Biamathang. The initiative aims to raise awareness among youth about the harmful effects of tobacco and promote a tobacco-free society.

The event began with the Tobacco Free Youth Pledge, followed by a yoga session to encourage physical and mental well-being among participants.

The launch was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS); Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho; Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kacho Liyaqat Ali; Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr. Fatima Nissa; officials from the Food and Sports Departments; and students from various schools across the district.

Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar highlighted that the campaign focuses on empowering youth, the future of society, to spread awareness about the ill effects of tobacco. He emphasized that the message of a “Tobacco Free Kargil” must reach every corner of the district through sustained efforts and student-led initiatives.

ADC Imteeaz Kacho spoke about the dangers of drug and tobacco addiction, which he said can destroy lives and careers. He appreciated the efforts of the District Health Society and collaborating departments in organizing meaningful awareness programs. He further stressed the importance of engaging youth in productive activities like yoga, reading, and skill development to prevent addiction.

As part of the campaign, a painting competition on the theme of tobacco-free living was organized by Team Stringmo, where students showcased their creativity. Winners were felicitated by Judicial Member of CAT Srinagar, M.S. Latif, and Administrative Member, Prashant Kumar, who lauded the District Health Society for its ongoing commitment to youth engagement and health awareness.

Dr. Fatima Nissa expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participating departments, and students for their active support, making the campaign a successful initiative for a healthier and tobacco-free Kargil.
