Tibetan Women Association observes 57th National Tibetan Women Uprising Day

More than hundreds of Tibetan has taken down to the streets to commemorate the 57th National Tibetan Women Uprising day on 12th March in Leh. 

The Tibetan Women Association on the 57th anniversary urged the Chinese President Xi Jinping to enter into a dialogue with the representative of His Holiness to resolve the long-standing political issue on Tibet.

Tribute was paid to all the Tibetan women from the three provinces in Tibet who staged a peaceful yet powerful resistance against the Chinese military forces in 1959.  
The march started from Men Tsee Khang Leh and culminated at Pologround.

LBA Women Wing, Vice President-Tsewang Dolma, LBA Youth Wing Vice President Konchok Stak, Tibetan CRO, Phuntsog Angchuk and many more were present. 
Konchok Stak expressed the importance of unity and determination of all the Tibetans to walk on the way lead by His Holiness Dalai Lama. He assured that the people of Ladakh will always stand and support Tibetan in their struggle for freedom. 

On 12th March 1959, Tibet was shattered by the Communist Chinese military forces. It was on the day when women of Tibet faced the Chinese invasion, poured into the streets of Lhasa in protest against the presence of the People's Republic of China in Tibet. Hundreds were killed as the Chinese government interfered.
Tibetan women Association President Karma Nurzin Pema, encourages more and more women to stand for the cause of Tibet and talked about the middle way policy based on the principle of justice, compassion, non-violence, friendship for the well-being of entire humanity.

Stating Tibet as a very peaceful place, she urged the people to continue their struggle through non-violence and expressed the determination to work towards fulfilling the dream of Free Tibet.

After a year long struggle and peaceful protest against the Chinese government and another form of protest, self immolation took shape. Over the years, 143 Tibetans immolates themselves and called for the freedom of Tibet and the return of His Holiness to Tibet.

Tibetan Women in Exile, under the leadership of His Holiness re-established as the strongest women body since 1984. 

Tibetan Women Association have 56 regional chapters and 17000 members  who are actively working towards the preservation and promotion of culture, religion, education  and most importantly empowering the Tibetan women in Exile and advocating  the rights of women in Tibet.
